We read this book when teaching retelling. First we have the kids make the simple and cute mouse 'puppets' (shown at left, found at here). Then we read the story to the class, and then we retell the story together, with the kids playing the part of the mouse and the teacher saying "If I give you a _____, you'll probably say..." and the kids respond by holding up their puppets and calling out "I want a ____".
